Bruckner was only 15 years old when she was cast in her first role in a major film as a teenage girl in Blue Car (2002). In the movie, Bruckner performed the role of a young high-school student having an illicit affair with David Strathairn. Roger Ebert, a film critic, said Bruckner nailed this challenging script with total conviction. The role of Bruckner was nominated by Independent Spirit Awards for "Best Female lead". She was raised along with three siblings: two sisters and a brother. Hungarian was her first language and was regularly practiced to achieve fluency. Bruckner was born in Hollywood California to a Hungarian father as well as a Russian mother. They later divorced her paternal grandfather was German. The couple met in Hungary and immigrated into the U.S. in 1984 through an asylum camp in Italy. She has two siblings and one younger brother.
